Just when you didn't want to be lectured...
The bare necessities of a happy life are EXPERIANCES and RELATIONSHIPS. Without, life would be empty and boring. We all have one life to live so, "As long as possible live free and uncommitted. It makes but little difference whether you are committed to a farm or the county jail" - Henry David Thoreau.
This does not mean a person has to live as I did out of a Subaru Forester, a camper, a hotel room, or a Suburban. Time is limited and if you are too committed to the wrong things in life, life will pass by without your knowing. My combatant for this is photography. Photography causes me slow down and appreciate the places I am in, with the people I am with, and record it for future reflection and the occasion sharing, which is what this site is about. Every now and then I get lucky and am in the right place, at the right time, with the right camera settings!
Experiences - There is something to be said for the movie "Yes Man," with Jim Carrey. In the movie, he is forced to say yes to everything for a year. When doing so, he had lots of incredible (both good and bad) experiences he never would have experienced without saying, “YES.” I have said “Yes” more times than I probably should’ve. I have survived working behind the lines of “prohibition,” moose chases down mountain trails, grizzly bear and rat alarm clocks, LOTS of unknown food consumed and many more. One of the most unforgettable series of "Yes's" resulted in a hungover hike from hell in a place few venture, huge bears, and a hellicopter. Just ask! “Yes” has created many exciting, dangerous, mind morphing, and life changing opportunities that can be looked back on with the thought, “Wow, that was awesome!” and with others, “WTF?!”
Relationships – Great family and friends are scattered across the globe. I have been fortunate to build relationships with people from all walks of life at all points of their lives, both high and low. “Yes” not only helps with experience, it has helped with relationships. If I would not have said “Yes” to a then stranger buying me a beer (out of his cooler) miles down a dirt road, I would not have lived in Jackson Hole for 4 incredible years. In those four years, I was blessed to spend time with some of the smartest people in the world while touring the prettiest places on earth, daily. I learned that EVERYONE has a great story to tell... if you listen.
“Yes” has cultured me in ways books and schools did not provide. I everyoen to just say, "YES!"
These images I hope will inspire you to get out and see the world and break the commitment's of life to find your own experience!
If you have a fun adventure you are unvertin of taking, feel free to reach out for advice or ask me to tag along. Chances are pretty good I will say YES!
